Lecture Series & Forum

Internationally prominent guest lecturers are brought to Florence each fall semester as part of the graduate program in architecture and urban design. Guest speakers since 2005 have included:

The Richard Role Lecture on the City

Starting in fall 2008, a new lecture series is featured, dedicated to the late Kent State University-Florence professor Richard Role, and focusing on urbanism and urban design. The series will feature prominent European architects, urban designers and scholars with an international reputation in practice and/or research on urban issues. The Fall 2009 lecture will be offered by:

The Kent State Forum on the City

The Kent State Forum on the City is a series of dialogs on current transformations underway in contemporary cities. Urbanists, architects and landscape designers will team up with developers, policy makers and politicians to discuss how cities are changing and how they should change.

In fall 2006 the series was inaugurated with a first symposium on MILAN, coordinated by Sebastiano Brandolini. Participants included: Vittorio Biondi (economist), Paolo Pomodoro (urbanist), Marco Lanata (developer), Ennio Brion (developer), Andreas Kipar (landscape architect), Francesco Fresa (+ARCH), Alfonso Femia (5+1) andCarlo Terpolilli (University of Florence).

In fall 2007, the Forum discussed ROTTERDAM - The Modernity Lab, coordinated by Emiliano Gandolfi (Netherlands Architecture Institute). Participants included: Edzo Bindels (West8), Frank van den Beuken (City of Rotterdam), Rients Dijkstra (MAXWAN), Arnold Reijndorp, Todd Reisz (OMA), stealth (Ana Dzokic and Marc Neelen), Alex Vollebregt (spacelab, TU Delft). The round table included: Giandomenico Amendola (University of Florence), Constance Bodurow (Lawrence Tech, Detroit), Marco Brizzi (critic, Florence), Gabriele Mastrigli (critic, Rome), Francisco Sanin (Syracuse University, Florence).

In fall 2008, a book on ROME - The New Architecture, just published by Seabstiano Brandolini, was discussed. The panel included: Mose' Ricci (riccispaini, Rome), Richard Ingersoll (Syracuse University, Florence), Marco Brizzi (critic, Florence).
