Douglas Steidl Named New Dean of the College of Architecture
Douglas L. Steidl, FAIA, of Peninsula, Ohio, will become dean of Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design, effective July 1, announced Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Robert G. Frank. Steidl replaces James Dalton, who will return to a faculty position following the completion of a two-year appointment as dean of the college.

Schwarz Named Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative Director
Kent State University has appointed Terry Schwarz as the director of the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC). Schwarz previously served as interim director of the CUDC. Her work at the CUDC includes neighborhood and campus planning, commercial and residential design guidelines, and green infrastructure design strategies.

Kent State Salem Students Beautify Campus, Courthouse
Students at Kent State University at Salem saved tax payers more than $20,000 when reconstructing the front entryway of the campus during their summer classes. Participants of the landscape construction class improved the main entryway aesthetically while also increasing the visibility of entrance and exit, which will improve safety.

UCLA Professor to Discuss the Impact of the Environment on Health, April 20

Kent State University is a lead partner in a collaborative effort to address population decline and large-scale urban vacancy in Cleveland. The initiative Re-imagining a More Sustainable Cleveland has been selected to receive the American Planning Association’s (APA) 2012 National Planning Excellence Award for Innovation in Best Practices for Sustaining Places, the profession’s highest honor, at its April conference.
