CUDC Initiative Receives Accolades
Posted Jan. 31, 2012Re-imagining a [Greater] Cleveland, an initiative by Kent State University's Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC), was honored with the National Planning Excellence Award for Innovation in Sustaining Places. The initiative aims to re-purpose vacant space, promote sustainable local economies, and provide vibrancy within the community. Cleveland residents have watched vacant lots filled with debris transform into gardens, orchards, and vineyards.
The CUDC helped neighborhood residents and organizations by developing a guidebook for planning projects. Currently, planning is underway in the Urban Agriculture Innovation Zone in the lower Kinsman neighborhood of Cleveland, where Floyd Browne and Mobius Grey are working with the CUDC to create a plan for large-scale food production and distribution.
