Designing Your Degree Program
The Master of Liberal Studies Program is very flexible!
To design a program, follow steps 1-5 at the bottom of the Application Procedure page (see link in left frame) for creating a Tentative List of Courses.
In addition to standard classroom-style courses, you can select up to 6 hours of internship or practicum and up to 6 hours of research.
According to University policy, "a maximum of 4 semester credit hours earned in graduate workshops may be applied to a graduate degree program." For that policy, click here.
There is also the possibility of doing two masters degrees simultaneously or sequentially. KSU permits 12 hours of sharing between two masters degrees if you complete them simultaneously or sequentially. For information on doing simultaneous and sequential masters programs, click here.
For example, you could explore the idea of doing a Master of Library & Information Science Degree (MLIS) AND a Master of Liberal Studies Degree. Twelve hours of the MLIS could be used towards the Master of Liberal Studies Degree (it would count as your major in that case), and specialty courses could then be taken though the Liberal Studies Program to enhance the MLIS Degree.
