Kent State University recognizes the vital role that universities can play in fostering regional development and seeks to be actively engaged in leveraging the strengths of its eight-campus network to create economic vitality and an exceptional quality of life for Northeast Ohio. Kent State’s Division of Regional Development is committed to doing so with a spirit of entrepreneurship, public service, innovation, inclusion and truly reciprocal partnership.
The Division of Regional Development includes the College of Continuing Studies, Economic Development and Strategic Partnerships, Regional Corporate and Community Services and the administration of the Regional Campuses. It represents all eight campuses to external audiences as part of Kent State’s overall public service mission.
College of Continuing Studies
Kent State’s College of Continuing Studies, one of Ohio's leading centers for lifelong learning, extends the resources of Kent State to students of all ages through professional development, personal enrichment and other outreach programs. Kent State’s community of dedicated scholars and staff develop innovative classes, interesting programs and challenging research options.
Economic Development and Strategic Partnerships
The economic development and strategic partnerships unit provides universitywide leadership for the creation and facilitation of mutually beneficial partnerships, collaborations and entrepreneurial initiatives with business, government, intermediaries and other academic institutions for Kent State's eight-campus network. These typically include creating research- and technology-based partnerships, assisting new start-up companies in cooperation with the Division of Research and Graduate Studies, and establishing strategic alliances and multicampus collaborations to promote economic development in the region and state. Particular attention is devoted to aligning Kent State's strengths with statewide cluster priorities in the areas of polymers/advanced materials, biosciences, information technologies and entrepreneurship.
The economic development and strategic partnerships unit also serves as the initial point of contact for those seeking to link with Kent State’s capabilities, including its faculty expertise, services and facilities. The office also provides a venue for exploring partnerships, collaborations and other forms of engagement with the university.
Regional Campus AdministrationRegional Corporate and Community Services
Kent State’s network of business outreach offices, located at each of Kent State’s eight campuses, serves employers and employees throughout Northeast Ohio with customized employee training, organizational development consulting, professional development and certification programs, research and evaluation services and small business training and consulting. The Office of Regional Corporate and Community Services provides universitywide leadership to ensure the quality, broad distribution and market-driven nature of these services. This office ensures that the university’s myriad resources are available to respond to the needs of employers who want to develop the critical knowledge and skills of their employees so they might perform effectively in the highly competitive marketplace.
