International Undergraduate Degrees

Reference the descriptions below to determine which application you will need. From there, you may read tips for each application type or apply. If you’re still not sure about which application type you should use, use Ask Kent State.

Freshman

A student who has not attended any college, university, technical or proprietary school after graduation from high school. Students who have taken college coursework while in high school should apply as a new freshman.

A student who has enrolled in college, university, technical or proprietary school after graduation from high school.

Post-Undergraduate

A student who has received a baccalaureate degree from a college or university, yet wishes to take additional undergraduate courses. There are two types of post-undergraduate applicants: Please Note: If you are a former Kent State University student who has not attended any other college or university since your prior enrollment, you do not need to reapply. Contact the Registrar’s Office, 330–672–3131 or visit the Admissions homepage of the Regional Campus you plan to attend.

International Undergraduate Guest

An international applicant who would like to take a limited number of undergraduate courses for credit. In order to apply as a guest, students must have graduated from high school or be currently enrolled at another institution. International guest students can only enroll for up to 18 semester hours and cannot earn a degree. Typically, this student type is reserved for international students who are currently enrolled at another U.S. institution and would like to take one or two classes at Kent State.

International Visiting Student

In order to apply as an international visiting student, students must have graduated from high school or be currently enrolled at another institution. A visiting student is short-term and not working toward a degree at Kent State. Students may remain in this special status for one academic year or until a maximum of 45 semester hours of credit is earned. Typically, this student type is reserved for international students who are not currently enrolled at a U.S. institution but would like to study abroad at Kent State for an academic year or less.

Student from Exchange Partner

This student type is reserved for international applicants who are currently working toward the equivalent of an American bachelor's degree at the tertiary level of education at their home partnering institution with Kent State University. A partnership could be a Memorandum of Understanding or Agreement between an institution and Kent State. An exchange student is short-term and not working toward a degree at Kent State.
