Faculty and Staff Giving is a Winning Tradition

Posted Apr. 19, 2010

Geno FordHead Men’s Basketball Coach Geno Ford understands the importance of private support to public education. Ford is a contributor to the Centennial Campaign through his significant support of the Athletics Academic Resource Center, where student-athletes access tools and staff support to keep them moving toward graduation. It is his way of ensuring the Golden Flashes are defined by excellence both in competition and in their studies.

“Supporting the capital expansion of the Athletics Academic Resource Center was an easy decision to make,” Ford, this year’s Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, says. “I knew I wanted to support an area with the greatest ability to make change in the lives of student-athletes, and knowing that every student-athlete uses the Academic Resource Center, it was the perfect area to receive my financial support.”

It is easy to overlook the goodwill at the heart of every nonprofit organization, and that is why each spring the Annual Fund’s Faculty and Staff Campaign provides a reminder of the ways Kent State employees impact students through private support. Kent State University serves the greater community by providing quality educational opportunities to those pursuing a college degree, and each member of the university plays a pivotal role in raising the quality of education that is delivered to students.

But through the annual campaign, faculty and staff deepen their university relationship through their contributions. These gifts can be directed to any area on campus donors wish to support, such as a department’s scholarship fund, a college’s dean’s discretionary fund or an athletic program. Convenient payment options, like payroll deduction and monthly installments, are also available to ensure that the decision to give is a simple one!

Faculty and staff support is an important component of the Centennial Campaign — so far, more than 2,000 university employees have made commitments to critical initiatives from scholarships to student research funding to facilities. Your support can make a difference in students’ lives and open the door to their future.

“Giving back is a family priority,” Ford says. “It’s crucial that our internal community supports our programs and various areas of excellence. If there is strong buy-in internally, it is more likely that our external audiences — alumni, fans and community members — will support Kent State as well.”
