Art and Design Education in Florence, Italy
This trip will focus on art and cultural and historic landmarks, to understand how studying Renaissance artifacts may relate to American culture. Students will visit schools in Milan, Reggio Emilia, and Florence to gain an awareness and appreciation of how children and youth are taught in environments that are rich with historical architecture, design, and art. They will have an opportunity to teach in an international school in Milan.
There will be tours, workshops and opportunities to vist Florence, Milan and Reggio Emilia with optional trips to Venice, Rome and Pisa.

Experience the Arts and Culture of China
This 12-day travel-study during spring break aims to expand participants’ horizons and enrich their understanding of the dynamics of Chinese cultural landscape through examination of historical relics, exposure to cultural artifacts at heritage sites, and collaboration with local college students to develop in-situ research or plan for an art installation.
This course is open to all KSU students of any majors with junior standing and above and comprises three components:
- Two pretravel videoconferences to prepare participants and help them develop a mindset for interglobal collaboration, partnership, and intercultural communication;
- A 12-day travel-study component during spring break to expand participants’ horizons and enrich their understanding of the dynamics of Chinese cultural landscape through examination of historical relics, exposure to cultural artifacts at heritage sites, and collaboration with local college students to develop in-situ research or plan for an art installation;
- A post-travel exhibition to showcase how participants anchored meanings and embodied the complexity of their study-abroad experience through visual narratives and artistic representation and to demonstrate a contextualized understanding of Chinese art forms, cultural symbols, and architectural and communal spaces.
