Annual Evening With the Orchestra Benefit EventPosted Apr. 1, 2010
The Kent State University Hugh A. Glauser School of Music presents the 35th annual Evening with the Orchestra on Saturday, April 24 in the Ballroom of the Kent Student Center. Tickets are $55 per person and can be reserved by contacting Orchestra Society President Larry Andrews at (330) 673-4535 or firstname.lastname@example.org or the Hugh A. Cocktails begin at 6 pm, followed by dinner at 7 p.m., the Kent State University Orchestra program at 8 pm and dancing at 9:30 pm. To top off the evening, Chas Baker and the KSU Jazz Ensemble will play for the guests' dancing and listening pleasure.
The Orchestral portion of the program will include the Academic Festival Overture, op. 8 by Johannes Brahms; Zigeunerweisen, op. 20 , by Pablo de Sarasate, which will feature soloist Nicolette Kocsardy on violin; Valse Triste, op. 44 by Jean Sibelius. The performance will conclude with Les Préludes, S.97 by Franz Liszt. As an added treat, Dr. Stan Christensen, winner of the guest conductor auction, will conduct Ralph Vaughan Williams' English Folk Song Suite's March: Folk songs from Somerset.
The evening will include the Conduct-the-Orchestra auction and the presentation of the Leopold Sipe Award to an orchestra musician.
