Voices of Canton Inc. to Perform on June 4 & 5Posted May. 27, 2011
One of this region’s premiere choral organizations, the Voices of Canton Inc., or VOCI, is returning to Kent State University at Stark, where it was the company-in-residence in the early 70s. The historic ensemble will perform two ENCORE 2011: Places Called Home concerts on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 5 at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre at Kent State Stark, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children.
In the sell-out formula of so many VOCI seasons, this performance by the adult chorus, which consists of more than 60 members, will present a musical world tour. Under the direction of Loren Veigel, the choir will display VOCI’s musical excellence as a choral ensemble through a visit to France, Russia, Latvia and other destinations for their first act. This salute to world folk traditions will be followed by an all-American second act.
Beginning in 1939, as the Canton Civic Opera, VOCI has been performing opera, operettas, musicals, major works, madrigals and musical reviews for the public of greater Canton for 70 seasons. In 1973, shortly after the Fine Arts Building was built at Kent State Stark, the ensemble was invited to become the campus’s company-in-residence. Celebrated as coming home performances, the concerts promise to thrill chorus lovers of all ages with VOCI’s variety and vocal talent.
