Fab Fridays Introduce Local Students to School of Music Faculty and StaffPosted Jan. 29, 2013
Area instrumental music students have the opportunity to better their music skills and learn from students and faculty on the Kent State Campus through the Fab Friday Series, presented by the Kent State University Hugh A. Glauser School of Music Division of Bands and Music Education.
The 2012-2013 Fab Friday Series kicked off Jan. 25 with a visit from Bedford City School District's Bedford Heskett Middle School Band, conducted by Jennifer Shauf.
Fab Fridays program coordinator and assistant professor Marcus Neiman, along with associate professor Patricia Grutzmacher (pictured above), professors on the Kent State University conducting staff and music education students, worked with the Bedford Heskett Middle School band that morning. The band's Fab Friday experience included sectional rehearsals with music education studentsand a workshop with Kent State University conductors.
"Fab Friday programs offer the opportunity to bring talented school instrumental music groups to the Kent State University campus to work with our conducting staff, applied faculty, graduate assistants and graduate and undergraduate students," Neiman said. "Not only do these students get the opportunity to refine their playing skills and prepare for concert or large group adjudicated events, but it also introduces hundreds of students to our students, faculty and campus."
