On Friday, Aug. 19, Kent State University Museum’s “Movie Date with Kate” regional film series presents a 7:30 p.m. screening of “On Golden Pond” (1981) at the Palace Theater at PlayhouseSquare in Cleveland. The showing is presented by PlayhouseSquare’s “Cinema at the Square” series in partnership with Kent State University Museum’s “Movie Date with Kate,” a yearlong, multi-venue regional film series supporting the museum’s exhibition, “Katharine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen,” closing Sept. 4. James Harris, who manages the supporting programming for the Hepburn exhibit, will introduce the film.
“On Golden Pond” was nominated for 11 Oscars including Best Picture and won three, for best actor (Henry Fonda), best actress (Katharine Hepburn) and best screenplay based on another medium (Ernest Thompson from his stage play). The movie was produced by Jane Fonda, who also received an Oscar nomination as best supporting actress. Katharine Hepburn’s academy award was her fourth win as best actress, a record that remains unbroken.
