The TRiO student support services (SSS) program provides extensive tutoring for its participants. Three main areas of focus include: 1) peer mentoring; 2) math and science; and 3) writing Tutoring is offered in many of the Kent Core requirements through the Trio SSS program. The Writing and Humanities Center is for TRiO/SSS students to receive academic assistance in any writing intensive courses as well as some humanities courses such as Psychology, Sociology, History and Seven Ideas. Upper level humanities and writing courses are available for tutoring if we have a qualified tutor for your course. Please call the ASC (330)672-3190 to see if we have a tutor for your needs.
Our tutors are required to have an A or A- in the course they are tutoring, as well as a 3.0 minimum grade point average to ensure your tutor has demonstrated knowledge in the subject area. Tutors a trained by our College and Reading Learning Association (CRLA) certified training course. Many of our tutors and peer mentors are also prior SSS students.
