Dean Susan Stocker Named Interim Regional College Dean

ASHTABULA, Ohio (April 23, 2015)— Kent State University Provost Todd Diacon announced Thursday that Dr. Susan Stocker, Dean and Chief Administrative Officer for Kent State University at Ashtabula, will be serving as Interim Dean of the Regional College for Kent State University starting July 1.  Stocker will continue in her capacity as dean of the Kent State Ashtabula campus while serving a two-year term as the Regional College interim dean.  Stocker has led the Ashtabula campus as dean since 2001, and also served as interim dean of the College of Nursing during the 2013 academic year.

The Regional College is the academic unit for certificates and degrees only offered at Kent State’s seven regional campuses.  The Regional College consists of 120 full-time faculty and program directors and houses nine programs with specialized accreditation, such as Ashtabula’s health degrees.  Responsibilities of the Regional College dean include representing all regional campuses to Kent State University administration, developing a strategic plan and annual goals for the growth of the regional campuses, and conducting reviews of degree programs and faculty appointments.

“I appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve in a leadership capacity at Kent State University and to represent all regional campuses at the administrative level.  Our regional campuses are an asset to the Kent State University system and enable residents of Northeast Ohio to get a quality education close to home,” said Stocker.

The Regional College dean position is being left vacant by Dr. Wanda Thomas as she retires after 10 years of service to Kent State University.

Ohio – just like other states across the country – struggles with providing access to mental health services, as well as a shortage of social workers. In response to this situation, Kent State University’s College of Applied and Technical Studies last year launched its Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, aimed at addressing these significant challenges with a concentration on rural social work – a recognized need in areas where many of the Kent State Regional Campuses are located.

Kent State University’s Regional Campuses are hosting a series of information sessions designed to help Eastern Gateway Community College students navigate the transfer process and continue their education pathways.

Admissions and student service teams are proactively working to help maximize the transferability of credits and providing personalized support for current EGCC students.

Whether you are just beginning your academic journey or returning to your studies, Kent State University at Ashtabula's campus open house will provide the perfect opportunity to explore all that our hometown university has to offer. The Blue & Gold Night open house, which includes an informational sessions for College Credit Plus (CCP), will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. ‒ 7 p.m.
