Posted Aug. 19, 2011

Dr. Edgar E. Kooijman, Assistant Professor in the department of Biological Sciences at Kent State, was recently appointed as new associate editor for the professional journal Chemistry and Physics of Lipids published by Elsevier.Kooijman

Editor in Chief of the journal, Dr. R.M. Epand, wrote in his recent editorial: "We hope to continue the fine record of the journal and at the same time also incorporate an increased emphasis on the role of lipids in biological phenomena and in the area of biomedicine. This new emphasis will allow the journal to capture some of the new technologies and concepts being developed in the application of the chemistry and physics of lipids to biology and medicine.

"Dr. Kooijman is an expert in lipid biophysics and has experience with magic angle spinning NMR in the study of membranes," Epand said.  "His research focuses on membrane surface phenomenon and phospholipid headgroup interactions as well as lipid binding sites in proteins."
