Richard H. Marsh retired in June 2009 as senior vice president and chief financial officer of FirstEnergy Corp. FirstEnergy is a diversified energy services holding company with assets of $44 billion and annual revenues of $13 billion. The company serves 4.3 million customers and is the country's fifth largest electric system.
Rich joined Ohio Edison - which merged in 1997 with Centerior Energy to form FirstEnergy - in 1980 and served in a number of positions in the financial area. He was elected treasurer in 1991, vice president of Finance in 1997 and vice president and CFO in 1998. He was named senior vice president and chief financial officer in 2001, and was responsible for the treasury, accounting, auditing, benefit investments, investor relations, enterprise risk management, and flight operations functions.
Rich received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kent State University, a Master of Arts in psychology and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Akron. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Certificate in Management Accounting.
Rich is chair of the Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio. He also chairs the Finance Council of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and is a member of the Catholic Community Foundation. In addition, he serves as chair of the Distribution Committee of the Sisler-McFawn Foundation, is a board member of Energy Insurance Mutual, and serves on the Advisory Council for National Machine Group. He has received the Distinguished Service Award from the United Way of Summit County and the Simonetti Distinguished Business Alumni Award from the University of Akron.
He and his wife Joan have two daughters, Elizabeth and Kathleen.
