Refund Calculation for Flexible Scheduled Classes

(Open Learning)

Refund percentages for flexible scheduled classes are calculated using the following rules:

  1. Determine the number of days you have attended. To do this, count the number of calendar days (including holidays and breaks) beginning with the first day of the course (day one) through the drop date of the course.

  1. Determine the duration of the course.  Class duration is found by counting the days between the start and end date of the class, including both days.  Students can find start/end dates of flexible scheduled classes using the “Processing Dates for Classes” form at:  http://www.registrars.kent.edu/home/CLASSES/sessdatesrch.cfm

How to Calculate a Refund for a Flexible Schedule Class

Take the number of days attended (#1 above) and divide it by the duration of the course (#2 above).   The resulting percentage is rounded using normal rounding rule.  The resulting percentage will determine the refund given.

Example:

Attendance:                  3 days

Class Start Date:           5-19-08

Class End Date:            6-19-08

Class Duration:              32 days

                                                      Calculation Result:     3/32 = .09 or 9%

The following table is used to determine the percentage of the refund.  For the example the calculation result falls between 7-13 % resulting in an 80% refund for the student.
