Honors, Awards and Scholarships for Undergraduates

Scholarship deadline is Friday, February 15, 2013

The college of business Administration is offering scholarships and leadership awards for the 2013-2014 academic year.  These scholarships/awards are only offered to business majors and include academic scholarships for Kent State tuition, book scholarships and leadership awards.

To apply, download the fillable Universal Scholarship Application, complete and print the application and attach all additional materials requested as stated on the application form.  Only one application is needed for most scholarships except where specifically  noted.  Some scholarships have individual applications.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  Turn in your application and all required additional materials to: Dean’s Office, BSA 306, College of Business Administration, Kent State University,  Kent, OH 44242.

Albert Miles Memorial Scholarship
Student must be an officially declared business major, sophomore or junior status (30 to 89 hours) and a minimum 3.00 overall GPA.

Alumni Student Endowed Award
Students must be an officially declared business major, currently senior status (minimum of 90 hours) or currently junior status (60 to 89 hours), minimum 2.50 GPA, and demonstrated leadership and service. Two awards given – one senior and one junior.

Arden L. Allyn Cup
An engraved cup presented annually, in honor of Arden L. Allyn, to a graduating senior in the College of Business Administration on the basis of scholastic accomplishment (minimum 3.00 GPA) and demonstrated leadership in student organizations and other community activities.

Carol and Lellan McFarland Scholarship Endowment Fund
This award is given to Business majors who demonstrate financial need and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.  To continue to receive this scholarship beyond one academic year, a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA must be maintained.

David R. Fitzsimmons Family Scholarship
Awarded to a full time student who will have reached sophomore standing (30-59 semester hours) by the time the scholarship is to be used, minimum 2.0 GPA,  pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in the College of Business Administration and demonstrates financial need.

Daniel L. and Rosemary L. Rhodes Scholarship
Award given to any qualifying business major. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 15 hours but no more than 60 hours at the start of all semester, 2.50 overall GPA, and demonstrating leadership and service to Kent State University and the surrounding community.

Delta Sigma Pi Key
Scholarship key presented by Delta Sigma Pi, a professional fraternity in commerce and business administration, to the graduating senior who has the highest academic average. No application, selected by College.

Donna & Roger Derr Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to undergraduate students pursuing degrees in the College of Business Administration based on prior academic performance, financial need, conclusions drawn from review of application, and demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community.

Elaine Wylie and Marvin G. Haught Scholarship
An award given to any business major with a minimum of 30 hours completed at the beginning of the fall semester, minimum 3.0 overall GPA.

Frank J. Kelly Scholarship
An award given to any College of Business Administration major. Applicants must have a minimum of 30 credit hours prior to the beginning of fall semester and a minimum of 3.00 overall GPA.

Gross Family Scholarship
Awarded to a qualified College of Business or Education major. Applicants must have minimum 30 credit hours completed prior to the beginning of Fall semester and a minimum 2.25 overall GPA. For 2013-14 this scholarship goes to an Education Major

JB Memorial Scholarship
Any College of Business major may receive this award. Qualified applicants must have completed a minimum of 15 credit hours and a minimum 3.00 overall GPA, and demonstrated leadership and service to KSU and surrounding community

Joseph and Judith Tirpak Scholarship
This award is given to any qualifying College of Business Administration major. Applicants must have a minimum of 30 hours completed at the start of Fall semester, minimum 3.00 overall GPA, and financial need. Preference is given to Lake County residents.

Kent Alumni Reach For Excellence Scholarship (KARE)
This award is available for any College of Business major. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours prior to the start of the Fall semester, minimum 3.00 overall GPA, and demonstrated leadership skills and outstanding service.

Milan W. Powers Endowed Scholarship
This award is for College of Business or College of Education students, with preference to graduates of Field High School in Brimfield, OH.  Students must have financial need, a minimum 30 hours completed as of Fall semester, a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA and be able to demonstrate leadership on campus and in the community.

Rolland and Marilyn Walk Scholarship
This award is available for any College of Business major who is a sophomore, junior, or senior.  It is renewable up to 3 years.

Accounting

Financial Executive Institute Award
Presented annually to the outstanding business student majoring in either finance or accounting and who has indicated a career objective as a financial executive. No application, selected by department.

The Kenneth Niemann Scholarship
This award was created for individuals pursuing a career in the accounting or finance industry. Applicants must have a minimum 60 hours completed at the start of fall semester with a minimum 3.00 overall GPA.

Computer Information Systems(Application Deadline for CIS Scholarships is February 15, 2013)

Center for Information Systems Tuition Scholarships (Application)
These awards are for Computer Information Systems majors, pre-majors, and minors. They are offered by the Center for Information Systems in the College of Business Administration at Kent State University and may be applied towards Kent State University tuition for Fall 2013. At the discretion of the CIS Scholarship Committee up to 6 awards will be made.

Brian Kent Memorial Scholarship
The award is given to an officially declared Economics major. Applicant must have completed a minimum of 45 hours with a minimum 3.00 overall GPA.

Robert C. Bingham Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad (Application)
This award is available to all College of Business majors. Applicants must have a minimum of 30 credit hours completed prior to the beginning of fall semester and a minimum of 3.25 overall GPA. Preference will be given to Economics majors and students enrolled in the Geneva Program. Graduate students may also be considered. Must be full-time graduate student with a concentration in Economics, a minimum of 3.25 GPA, and demonstrated financial need.

Cleveland Chapter Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU)
This award is given to individuals who are pursuing a career in marketing or finance preferably with an interest in the insurance field. Applicants must have a minimum of 60 hours completed at the start of fall semester, minimum 3.00 overall GPA, financial need, and preference given to students from Northeastern Ohio. All eligible students should apply, however, as all applicants will be considered.

Angelo and Joyce Kinicki Scholarship 
Awarded to a full time, undergraduate senior  majoring in  Management.  Student must be an OH resident, have a minimum overall GPA of 3.3 with proven financial need; nonrenewable.

Advertising Club of Akron Scholarship
A scholarship awarded to a declared Marketing major. Recipient must have a minimum of 60 completed credit hours and a minimum 2.50 overall GPA. First consideration will be given to students from Summit, Medina and Portage Counties. All eligible students should apply, however, as all applicants will be considered

Cleveland Chapter Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU)
This award is given to individuals who are pursuing a career in marketing or finance preferably with an interest in the insurance field. Applicants must have a minimum of 60 hours completed at the start of fall semester, minimum 3.00 overall GPA, financial need, and preference given to students from Northeastern Ohio. Donald S. Grant Entrepreneurship (Application)
An award for a pre-entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship major or minor with a minimum of 60 hours completed at the beginning of Fall semester, minimum of 3.00 overall GPA. The award is split
between scholarship and travel expenses to be determined by College.

Gary M. Gale Associates, Inc. Marketing Scholarship
An award given to a junior or senior marketing major with a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA. Priority is given to students with demonstrated leadership and service to Kent State University and the surrounding community. Special requirement: The top candidates, as determined by the selection Committee, will be interviewed by the Assistant Dean. The interview will be taped and sent to Mr. Gale for his input. The top candidates will be notified.

Link's Foundation, Inc. Entrepreneurship Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior pursuing a major or minor in entrepreneurship. Applicants must have a minimum 60 hours completed at the start of fall semester with a minimum 3.0 overall GPA. Other considerations: US citizen, Ohio resident, demonstrated financial need and willing to mentor a high school student.

Mickey Dover Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a Marketing major with a demonstrated interest in organizational communications and/or public relations. Applicants must have a minimum of 30 credit hours completed prior to fall semester and a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

The International Material Marketing Society - L. Hollis Memorial Scholarship
An award given to individuals interested in transportation, logistics and material management. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours and a minimum 2.75 overall GPA.

The Nancy Martin Beckwith Memorial Scholarship
An award for students enrolled in the College of Business Administration Marketing major. Applicants must have minimum 30 hours completed at the start of fall semester, minimum 3.00 overall GPA, and demonstrated leadership and community service. Primary consideration will be given to women applicants.

Ray's Place Scholarship
This award is given to a full-time junior or senior with preference for an entrepreneurship major (next priority to a marketing major) who has a minimum 2.60 cumulative GPA, works a minimum of 15 hours per week and has financial need.

Tim Eippert Scholarship for Entrepreneurship
This award is given to students enrolled in the College of Business administration's Entrepreneurship major. Applicants must have a minimum of 30 credit hours completed prior to the beginning of fall semester.

Victor P. Gravereau Marketing Honorary Scholarship

An award presented to a Marketing major with the highest scholastic achievement. No application, selected by department.

The International Material Marketing Society - L. Hillis Memorial Scholarship
An award given to individuals interested in transportation, logistics and material management. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours and a minimum 2.75 overall GPA.

Thomas Kelty Memorial APICS Scholarship

An award to an outstanding Junior in the College of Business Administration in the Operations Management major. It is presented on the basis of scholastic accomplishment.  Department selects.

Kenneth L. Calhoun International Scholarship (Application)

The Kenneth L. Calhoun Internship Scholarship is made possible from a grant awarded from the Kenneth L. Calhoun Trust.  This one-time scholarship award (up to $1500) is available to students from/residing in Summit County who are participating in an approved, for- credit, unpaid internship

Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and meet all other departmental prerequisites to qualify.  Eligible majors:  ACCT, BMGT, CIS, ECON, ENTR, FIN, MAE, MBA, MSA, MKTG, MMTG, OPMG. Applications must be submitted within two weeks of commencing the internship.  All scholarship awards are deposited into the student's Bursar's account.  Failure to successfully complete the internship will result in the revocation of scholarship funds.

The Stevens Family Scholarship (Application)
The Stevens Family Scholarship is made possible through the generous donation of Fran and Joe Stevens.  This scholarship supports College of Business students (undergraduate, graduate and PhD) who study abroad, are involved in community fellowship or take on unpaid internships.  Undergraduate students generally must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and meet all other departmental prerequisites to qualify.  Click here for the application.  All scholarship awards are deposited into the student's Bursar's account.

VanBenthuysen Applied Business Experiences Award (Application)
The Van Benthuysen Applied Business Experiences Award is made possible through a generous donation from Mr. and Mrs. Walt and Judy VanBenthuysen and their desire to see students connect to "real world" experience beyond the classroom, even when that experience comes without a paycheck.  The goal for these awards is to offer merit-based scholarships to students who have accepted unpaid internships which qualify for academic credit.

Generally, students must have at least a 2.5 GPA, be declared in a business major, (eligible majors:  ACCT, BMGT, CIS, ECON, ENTR, FIN, MKTG, MMTG, OPMG), and meet all other departmental prerequisites to qualify (see details here)

This award is available to all College of Business majors. Applicants must have a minimum of 30 credit hours completed prior to the beginning of fall semester and a minimum of 3.25 overall GPA. College of Business International Scholarship (Application)
The International Scholarship is to support College of Business Administration undergraduate and graduate students who intend to participate in international study. Award amounts range from $250 to $2,500. Students must be a College of Business undergraduate major or a graduate student within the College of Business. Students must have a minimum of 30 semester hours completed or graduate status, as well as a 3.0 GPA. Applications are accepted year round. (Additional Information)
