8:10 AM: Cathy Bakes, Welcome and Introductions

  • New members include:  
  • Chris Clancy (Cleveland Clinic)
  • Brad Nellis (NEOSA)
  • Martin Tursky (Aultman Hospital)
  • –Helping us to expand into Stark County and increase linkages to the medical and small business sectors of the region’s economy
  • 8:23 AM: Dean Heisler, Announcements  
  • 250 students involved in the business experience in AY 2008-2009, up from 89 students in AY 2007-2008
  • 11% increase in KSU freshman enrollment over last year; 12% increase in College of Business
  • Challenge Grant by retired faculty member, 90 days to raise $10,000
    –Money all goes to scholarships

  • Appreciate 40 responses to recent survey
    –Will send out soon to all who requested them
  • Next Meeting Dates: Nov 6, Dec 11, Feb 26, April 9, and May 7

  • Speakers scheduled for all meetings except Dec 2
  • MISA membership comprised of mostly seniors

8:41 AM: Dean Liz Sinclair, Recruitment and Retention Plans Presentation

  • What can we do to assist?
    –Go with her to high schools and try and recruit students
  • Help for students who transfer institutions or colleges?
    –Every new student should be assigned an advisor
  • Counseling for the domino effect?
    –Advisors will be the central contact point for help when students are having difficulties obtaining financial aid, with   academics, getting involved, making friends, etc.

  • Marketing
    –New name ideas, "Recruitment" or "Enrollment" Committee
    –Outreach to Military retirees when recruiting CIS students
    –Provide better explanation to high schoolers about what CIS is
    –To help with marketing efforts, might change name of major name from Computer Information Systems to Business Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Information Systems, or other
