  • What server did you use?
    • A University server
  • Most significant thing you learned?
    • MySQL
  • Hardest task for project?
    • Getting the photos to display correctly
  • How did you test usability?
    • Tested using multiple browsers, and brother also helped with testing
  • Have you programmed in any other languages? If so, which did you like the best?
    • Visual Basic because it was simple and easy to use.

  • Network Security
  • Cracked 128 bit WEP key using BackTrack 4

Discussion:

  • How is WEP key generated?
    • Based on words scrambled using hexadecimal coding. It is randomly generated, but after 5000 characters it repeats itself.
  • What would you define as a strong password?
    • 13 characters, no words, and a combination of letters and numbers.
  • When would you recommend changing a password?
    • Most companies say every 6 months. Mike recommends a month or less. But this could lead to confusion.
  • What were some challenges you faced working in a team?
    • Difficult finding times to meet due to busy schedules; they had never hacked a wireless router before.
  • Are there more male hackers than female?
    • Did not do extensive research but most script kiddies are male.
  • Is there a correlation between playing video games and hacking?
    • No direct correlation; such activities are probably a result of boredom.
  • Who is responsible for computer crime?
    • Mainly disgruntled employees who have personal vendettas.
  • Where did you find out how to use BackTrack?
    • It was available on line with instructions on how to hack a wireless router.

  • Teamwork: The Key to Project Success
  • Client: Elm Ridge Animal Hospital

Discussion:

  • How did you guys become a team?
    • Had team assembled before the semester started, and had dinner every Thursday. If you can't build a team of friends, build a team and then form relationships.
  • How did you find a client?
    • It was a very difficult process. The team originally had a client in Nantucket but the client decided the project was too big. The team approached another company who also decided the project was too big. In the end it came down to networking, and Matt had a family member whose website needed a facelift.
  • What was the toughest phase?
    • The requirements analysis and technical design.
  • Did you have any disagreements with the client?
    • It was tedious that they had to sign off on every change they wanted.
  • Who will support the application now that the project is done?
    • Matt because he knows the people.
  • For Stephanie: How did your National Guard Training help you?
    • Helped her motivate the team. Constant e-mails and staying on top of things.
  • Was there any money?
    • No, but it was a real client.
  • How did you communicate?
    • Through e-mails and text messages; also tried Google docs.
  • How relevant was this to the real world?
    • Very relevant. The team worked in phases that had to be completed in order.
