Kent State Ranking Qualifies Flight Team for Nationals

Kent State University’s Precision Flight ranked third overall last week at the Region III Safecon, National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Competition at The Ohio State University (OSU).

NIFA serves as a forum for collegiate aviators to expand their studies and further their careers by participating in competitive and non-competitive events, networking with industry leaders and applying themselves to go above-and-beyond their standard curriculum.

“This is a way for the students to grow and believe in themselves as aviators,” says George Armann, Head Coach and Advisor. “The team shows that safety is paramount in every aspect during the competition and they grow as a family and compete to further their skills well beyond the classroom.”

In addition to KSU, the week-long competition included teams from OSU, Western Michigan University, Ohio University and Bowling Green State University. KSU’s ranking at the regional competition means they’ll compete May 18-23, 2020 for the National Competition in Oshkosh, Wisconsin at the Wittman Regional Airport.

Kent State was awarded first place in the Safety Competition, second place for the Judge’s Trophy, third in the Flight Events Competition, third in the Ground Events Championship. Cameron Davis and came in second place in the Ground Trainer Competition out of 15 competitors. Joseph Culek and James Mills, placed first in the Message Drop category.
