Bill Willoughby is currently Associate Dean in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Kent State University and a tenured Associate Professor. Until June 2013, he was a tenured Professor in the School of Architecture at Louisiana Tech University where since 1998 he taught design, theory, architectural history, computer visualization in Interior Design, digital fabrication, community service, and professional practice. In 2005 he was appointed Associate Dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Director of Research and Graduate Studies at Louisiana Tech University, where he served in that capacity for eight years. May of 2013 he was awarded the Louisiana Tech University Foundation Professorship Award for extraordinary service and performance in the areas of teaching, research, and service to the campus community and the public sector.
Previously, he taught in various capacities at Kent State University (8/88-5/95) and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (8/95-6/97) as a Visiting Assistant Professor. In 1991 he received a Master of Architecture from Kent State University. He has been a registered architect in the State of Ohio since 1993, and has maintained NCARB Council Certification since 1995. He has worked in various architecture and design practices in Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Louisiana. Since 1993 he has authored over 35 publications and conference papers on such topics as design methodology, place theory, and architectural education. He has attended over 35 conferences to present research throughout the United States, Canada, and in Finland. From 2000 until 2005 he served as founding coordinator of the Community Design Assistance Center (CDAC) at Louisiana Tech University. Bill served as NCARB Intern Development Program (IDP) Educator Coordinator at Louisiana Tech University beginning in 1999. He is now an Auxiliary Coordinator for the IDP program and a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
