About the College
The College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology is one of the ten colleges of Kent State University, with more than 900 students and near double-digit growth in recent years. The University has more than 42,000 students in nine campuses, including more than 27,000 students in its main campus in Kent, where the college is. As one of its fastest growing colleges, the university has committed strong support to expand its programs. Kent State is constructing a new building for the college encompassing 55,000 square feet, scheduled to be completed in 2014. Funding has been secured to hire up to ten new faculty members to expand programs in the following general fields of study:
Applied Engineering is the application of engineering, design, technical and management skills for the design, manufacturing and integration of products and systems, the improvement of manufacturing processes, and the management of physical and/or technical functions of an organization.
Sustainability is the capacity to endure or last. Achieving sustainability will enable the earth to maintain a healthy environment and continue supporting human life. Applied Engineering and Technology are two of most effective fields to achieve sustainability.
Technology is the study of the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, systems, crafts, procedures and methods of organization, and their application to solve a problem, achieve a goal or perform a specific function.
The College has a unique program, the flight technology program that trains students to receive private and commercial pilot certificates with an instrument rating. The program is operated at the Kent State University Airport with a fleet of 23 single engine and two twin engine aircraft. The University is in the process of upgrading the fleet and the planning of a new airport building..
