About the College

The College of Arts and Sciences is the intellectual heart of Kent State University. Our primary mission is to provide a quality education for all students, led by the very best teacher-scholars. The programs in the College encompass humanities, social sciences, natural and mathematical sciences that are increasingly interwoven into mosaics of the liberating arts and sciences. These programs are offered through 16 academic departments and several centers and institutes. We offer 45 baccalaureate, 35 masters, and 37 doctoral degree programs in a wide range of fields.

The College of Arts and Sciences provides the foundational coursework for students throughout the University and attracts many of the best and brightest students in the University. We also educate students for many careers and professions.

There are 45 undergraduate majors to choose from and countless opportunities to lay the foundation to your future. Create unique combinations of double majors, majors and minors and even explore courses and minors in other colleges. The college offers Master's degrees in 21 disciplines and interdisciplinary areas and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in 15 disciplines, in the natural sciences and mathematics, the social sciences, and the humanities.

Unique Academic Opportunities

The College of Arts & Sciences offers several unique academic strategies, including real-life opportunities for civic engagement and field experiences to get the most out of your education. Our programs offer students ways to enhance their academic experience in a variety of ways ... from creating a  self-defined major, to digging deeply into research, to enriching course work through study abroad.

Pre-Professional Programs are developed tracks within their degree programs to prepare students for admission to medical, osteopathic, dental, veterinary medicine and pharmacy schools.

Residential College: Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences Learning Communities
The College of Arts and Sciences Residential College is a place where a student can grow intellectually and socially.  It's a community housed in Wright Hall that seeks to broaden the learning experience at KSU beyond the traditional classroom, lab, or studio setting.  It's a place where students get to know faculty, academic advisors and benefit from unique learning and leadership opportunities.

The Bachelor of Integrative Studies (BIS) Degree is a College of Arts and Sciences non-major degree which provides freedom for the self-directed, advanced college student who wishes to take a multidisciplinary and creative approach to the design of an educational program while maintaining a focus on career or professional goals.
