Combined BA-MA Program

 

Combined Bachelors/Masters Degree

Qualified undergraduate students are encouraged to apply for the combined Bachelors/Masters program at Kent State University.  To enroll in this program, students must first apply and be accepted to the M.A. program according to the same regulations listed above.  Once accepted, in consultation with the Graduate Coordinator, students may identify up to 12 graduate level (50000-level or above) credit hours that the student may enroll in before graduating with his/her Bachelors degree.  These 12 hours will then count towards both the Bachelors and the Masters degrees.

To qualify for application to the BA/MA program, undergraduates must meet one of the following criteria: 60 credit hours with a GPA of at least 3.50, 75 credit hours with a GPA of at least 3.40, 90 credit hours with a GPA of at least 3.30, or 105 credit hours with a GPA of at least 3.20.

For students that enroll in the combined bachelors/masters program, timelines are adjusted.  As it is typical for BA/MA students to spend one year in the combined program, these timelines are then shortened by one semester relative to the date of their full entry into the MA program (i.e. following graduation with a BA degree).  That is, an advisor should be picked by the 6th week of the first semester following full entry into the MA program, and a thesis proposal must be defended by the 6th week of the second semester.  In cases where coursework makes meeting these deadlines difficult, an extension may be granted by the Graduate Coordinator if supported by the graduate faculty.
