New Faculty for Fall 2013

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry welcomes two new faculty members for AY 2013-2014.

Professor David Bowers earned his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Akron. His research at Akron focused in the field of main-group inorganic chemistry, with emphasis on the synthesis of chlorophosphazenes. It included the synthesis and characterization of various chlorophosphazene oligomers and polymers, and often required the use of anaerobic techniques. Dr. Bowers will be teaching a range of freshman-level courses this Fall.

Professor Pritha Subramanian earned her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry here at Kent State University. Her research involved the development of synthetic approaches towards 2-substituted 3- and 4-fluorothiophene building blocks and their subsequent application in ferroelectric liquid crystal synthesis. Dr. Subramanian will be teaching Fundamentals of Chemistry (CHEM 10050) and two organic chemistry courses this semester.
