Justice Studies Programs Merge with Sociology DepartmentPosted Nov. 3, 2010
The Justice Studies Program is now integrated within the Sociology Department. In many other universities it is common for criminal justice and justice studies programs to be housed within the Sociology Department; the College of Arts and Sciences proposed this merger because there is a natural relationship between these areas of study. This new department aims to foster efficiency and collaboration between the two focuses - the different disciplines feeding off each other to create a diverse learning environment for Kent State students. The programs within the Justice Studies curriculum are rooted in the liberal arts, humanities and social sciences, integrating the knowledge and skills acquired in disciplines such as sociology, psychology and political science with a range of justice subjects. We welcome the justice studies students, faculty and staff to their new home within the Sociology Department, and are committed to working under one roof to provide the highest quality educational experiences and opportunities for students now and in the future.
