The first volume of The Letters of Ernest Hemingway, edited by Sandra Spanier and Robert W. Trogdon (Department of English), is receiving national and international attention with articles appearing in publications such as The New York Times and The Times Literary Supplement.  This volume includes Hemingway's correspondence from 1907-1922 which encompasses his youth, experience in World War I, and arrival in Paris.  The complete series will include at least 15 additional volumes of Hemingway's surviving letters from 1923 until his death in 1961, providing the reader with a comprehensive firsthand account of the thoughts and experiences that influenced the course of the author's personal and professional life.  Trogdon is a professor of English, department chair, and former director of the Institute for Bibliography and Editing.
