Researchers Receive NSF Grant to Study Biomembrane Signaling Events
Posted Jan. 26, 2011| Dr. Arne Gericke (Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry) and Dr. Edgar E. Kooijman (Department of Biological Sciences) have received a $442,467 grant from the National Science Foundation to investigate the physicochemical foundations of lipid phosphomonoester group mediated signaling events. Lipid signaling molecules with one or more phosphomonoester groups in their headgroup, like phosphoinositides, phosphatidic acid or ceramide-1-phosphate, have been shown to control an ever-increasing array of membrane trafficking and cellular signaling events. The two research groups will employ a large variety of biophysical techniques, ranging from NMR spectroscopy to advanced fluorescent techniques, to investigate the biophysical properties of this physiologically important lipid class. | |
