National Speakers Named for Third Annual YouToo Social Media Conference

Posted Mar. 1, 2010

Two national experts on the practical uses of social media marketing will highlight the Third Annual YouToo Social Media Conference to be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 16, at Kent State University’s Franklin Hall.

The keynote speaker will be Phil Gomes, senior vice president of Edelman Digital in Chicago and senior adviser to the Society for New Communications Research.

Opening speaker for the conference will be Kyle Lacy, author of “Twitter Marketing for Dummies” and a blogger whose work was named by two separate Web sites among the top 150 social media blogs in the world.

The all-day conference, co-sponsored by the Akron Area Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Chapter and the Kent State PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) Chapter, will include three learning tracks for communicators – in business, nonprofits and students. The day will feature hands-on sessions in such branding tools as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. The sessions, lunch and breaks also provide networking opportunities at the Kent Campus event. More than 15 regional communication experts will present at this year’s conference, including Bob Batchelor, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Gomes runs a learning lab in Chicago that trains Edelman consultants and others in using social media to build online communities. He is a respected speaker and teacher and an expert in the uses of emerging media technology for corporate communications.

Lacy also speaks and consults nationally on ways to use technology to increase a company’s business or grow connections for any organization. His social media marketing and design firm, Brandswag, helps business owners combine social media and traditional marketing.
