Energy Management

Building Automation and Communications Center

BACC OperationsThrough its Building Automation and Communications Center (BACC), Energy Management provides round-the-clock computerized monitoring of mechanical, utility and alarm systems in each Kent State University building; this ensures proactive rather than reactive responses to system problems. This operation is staffed by very capable students who dispatch emergency building system calls after hours, weekends and holidays. BACC provides an excellent warning system for building equipment failure, fire alarms, water flow, and high and low building temperatures.

Currently, Kent State University employs one supervisor and three Energy Management technicians who are trained to maintain, program, install and troubleshoot all of the various building automation equipment, computers, and related software. This equipment exists in over eighty buildings throughout the Kent campus, encompassing over 50,000 individual points.
