Occupational Health and Safety coordinates with the City of Kent Health Department for monthly inspections of the University’s swimming pools. These inspections are conducted to ensure that the pools meets all health and safety regulations, as specified by the Ohio Department of Health, including assurance that the proper chemical balance of the water is being maintained and that all life-saving equipment is available on the premises.
All food operations are inspected by the City of Kent Health Department, as well as the Portage County Health Department, who are mandated by the State of Ohio as licensing agencies. Inspections are made on a quarterly basis to ensure that all applicable food handling preparations are met and that the operations are managed with proper health and safety procedures.
During the spring and summer months, weather conditions warrant the development of procedures for tornado notification. The office of Occupational Health and Safety assists in the coordination of the university-wide warning system, the identification of shelter areas, and notification of building curators of tornado procedures.
