Pre-Medicine Program
Pre-Medicine Programs
Students may pursue a Pre-Medical program (Pre-medicine, Pre-Osteopathy, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Veterinary Medicine) at Kent State University . They must also complete all the requirements for a primary major or field of concentration. Students often choose to pursue the primary major in the biological sciences, chemistry, or psychology; they may, however, pursue any major in the college along with the premedical program. Note the BS Chemistry degree with a concentration in Biological Chemistry includes all the courses required for the Pre-Medical program. Pre-Medical Program Requirements are given below:

Some medical schools may also require the following strongly recommended courses: CHEM 40245 Biochemical Foundations of Medicine or CHEM 40247 Principles of Biochemistry; MATH 30111 Basic Probability and Statistics. Distributive requirements in the social sciences should be taken in the behavioral science areas (SOC 12050 plus SOC 42563 Medical Sociology; PSYC 11762 plus PSYC 40111 Abnormal Psychology recommended).
Veterinary Medicine
The current “Admission Guidelines” of The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Veterinary Medicine indicate that, in order to be eligible for “admission without condition”, students pursuing the Kent State Premedicine program should select BSCI 30156 Elements of Genetics and BSCI 30171 General Microbiology from among the biological sciences options and should add either CHEM 30284 Introductory Biological Chemistry or Principles of Biochemistry to the chemistry requirements above if neither is already being taken as part of the primary major. In addition, OSU recommends coursework in economics, sociology and psychology to fulfill the social sciences requirements. Speech (communications), history, classical studies and/or comparative literature are recommended for the humanities. A course in statistics also is encouraged. Math 30111 Basic Probability and Statistics is recommended.
