Extending the Research into International and Intercultural Education

2005-06 Publications

Using the Higher Educational Presidential Global Leadership Survey, the study, American Higher Education in a Global Society:  A Study of Presidential Leadership, investigated the global leadership competencies essential for higher education presidents in the highly globalized society of today.  A stratified random sample of 169 presidents  and 74 chairs of boards of trustees responded that 4 of the 7 general competency categories were vvery important to the effectiveness of presidents--global vision and culture, global strategic planning, global mind-set, and global learning.  Specifically 23 of the 44 global leadership competencies were perceived as very important. Linda Robertson, Director of CIIE, conducted this study. 

Dr. Olcay Unver also wrote a chapter, Sustainability of Water Resources in the Middle East, in the McGraw-Hill to be published volume, Water Resources Sustainability, edited by Larry W. Mays. 

During her stay at KSU, Dr. Yoo Jin Shon, from Pusan National University, completed a post doctorate study entitled, The Effect of Portfolio Use in Online Education on the Participation and Satisfaction of Preservice Kindergarten Teachers, under the guidance of Dr. Eunsook Hyun. 

2004-05 Publications:

As a result of the Project Harmony's visitation by 5 Armenian scholars, The Integration of Information and Communication Technologies in Secondary Schools was edited by the Armenia School Connectivity Program of the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs through the Freedom Support Act. Contributing to the publication, which was distributed throughout Armenia, were IT consultants Mary Tipton and Cindy Kovalik,  and Hudson City School personnel.  The forward was written by Dr. Linda Robertson, Director of CIIE.  

2003-04 Publications: 

The Counseling program here at Kent State University has extended the international collaborations in Turkey and the Bahamas into two publications.  The first, appearing in the Family Journal:  Counseling and Therapy for Couples and Families, Vol. 12, No. 3, July 2004, pp.319-323, is entitled A Turkish Perspective on Family Therapy:  An Interview with Hural Fisiloglu.  Collaborating  authors were M. Fulya Kurter from Ugur Career Service Center, Istanbul, and Marty Jencius and Jill Duba from Kent State University.  The second publication, a chapter on the Bahamian teen gangs, was also authored by Marty Jencius and Jill Duba from the partnership with the College of The Bahamas, Teen Gangs:  A Global View, edited by Maureen P. Duffy and Scott Edward Gillig.

2002-03 Publications: 

Building on the experiences of the intercultural work in Turkey, a research based article, A Cross-Cultural Material Development Project to Train Turkish Development Personnel in the Southeastern Anatolia Regional Development Project, is in press with The International Journal of Intercultural Relations.  This article was co-authored by Dr. Kenneth Cushner, Linda Robertson, Dr. Suheyla Kirca from Bahcesehir University, and Melek Cakmak, from Southeastern Anatolia Regional Development Administration, Republic of Turkey. 

 

Two articles were published in the fall of 2002 based on the COST program for international student teaching. Dr. Kenneth Cushner and CIIE former graduate assistant, Dr. Jennifer Mahon’s articles are Overseas Student Teaching: Creating Optimal Cultural Learning in Multicultural Perspectives  and Overseas Student Teaching: Affecting Personal, Professional and Global Competencies in an Age of Globalization, Journal of Studies in International Education  

 

Dr. Ilghiz Sinagatullin’s book, Constructing Multicultural Education in a Diverse Society, (2003, Lanham, Maryland: Scarecrow Press, Inc.)  written while Dr. Sinagatullin was in residence as a visiting scholar in the CIIE during the fall of 2001, has been published and added to our resource materials.
