Kent State Salem Horticulture Student Earns State Scholarship

Scholarship recipient Nancy Mackey with Chris Carlson, associate professor of horticulture technology.Nancy Mackey, a senior horticulture student at Kent State University at Salem, recently received the Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association scholarship.

Mackey was one of 17 students from across the state to receive the scholarship, valued at $1,000, and the only student from Kent State University.

The ONLA awards scholarships each year to Ohio green industry students. The scholarships are based on academic achievement, school involvement, extracurricular activities and an interest in horticulture.

Mackey lives in Hubbard and is earning her bachelor’s degree in horticulture with an emphasis in landscape design at Kent State Salem. She has been active with the Horticulture Club and Undergraduate Student Government.

The Perennial Plant Association is headquartered in Hilliard and is a trade association of growers, retailers, landscape designers, contractors, educators and others professionally involved in the perennial plant industry.
