Explore the Master of Arts in the School of Communication Studies

Upon finishing required coursework, graduate students have the opportunity to earn the Master of Arts in Communication Studies by completing a thesis, conducting a research project, completing an internship or selecting the coursework only option. Students can tailor their degree program to global, health, interpersonal, or mediated and mass communication.

Earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies

International students interested in the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies can choose from six concentrations to tailor their program of study and experience at Kent State University. The concentration areas include applied, global, health, interpersonal, organizational or public communication.

Campus and City

Kent State University and the City of Kent recently earned an inaugural award for Town-Gown Collaboration from the International Town-Gown Association. The award recognizes the top relationship between a city and university, based on the spirit of the organization. Both the University and Main Street Kent have recently invested in the Kent community, bringing more businesses, restaurants and shopping to the heart of Kent.

The University is located near the cities of Akron (about 16 miles/26 kilometers) and Cleveland, Ohio (about 40 miles/64 kilometers), and also neighbors the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and several parks and hiking/biking trails in the Akron Metro Parks system.

The award-winning police department at Kent State and the Residence Services Security Aides work tirelessly to keep the campus safe. The police department earned the “Flagship Agency” award twice, which honors excellence in law enforcement agencies. Residence Services Security Aides patrol campus each night, and are in constant contact with University Police and provide escorts for students between 8 p.m. (20:00) and 4 a.m., seven days a week.

Graduate Applicants: Admission requirements are available on the Admissions and Applications page. The application deadline for Fall enrollment is Jan. 15, and for Spring enrollment is November 15. The school considers applications until the cohort is full. Contact Graduate Coordinator Dr. Mei-Chen Lin at mlin@kent.edu or +1-330-672-0281. After your application has been accepted by the university and it has been sent to the School for review, please wait two weeks for the graduate committee to make a decision. Applicants may contact the graduate coordinator following the two week period.
