Outstanding Master’s Student Graduate Award presented to David Westermann

David Westermann is the recipient of the Outstanding M.A. Student Award from the School of Communication Studies for 2011. The award was presented during an awards ceremony in October as part of a Homecoming reception hosted by the school and held in Taylor Hall, home to the School of Communication Studies.

Westermann completed the Masters of Arts in Interpersonal Communicationin spring semester 2011. The title of his thesis is Mom, Dad, Let’s Be (Facebook) Friends: Exploring Parent/Child Facebook Interaction from a Communication Privacy Management Perspective. Westermann’s areas of research interest include interpersonal communication and computer-mediated communication. He plans to pursue a career in health care information technology.

While a graduate student at Kent State Westermann served as Social and Mentor Chair for Communication Graduate Student Association. 

Westermann earned his undergraduate degree in 2007 from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His hometown is Pinckney, Michigan.

The Outstanding M.A. Student award recipient should have at least a GPA of 3.5 overall and be in good standing. Any student who was still in the MA program during the previous May is eligible. The recipient should have made appropriate progress toward completing his or her degree. The winner will have presented at least one professional conference paper during his or her program. The award winner is selected by vote of the graduate faculty members.

Dr. Paul Haridakis, interim director of the School of Communication Studies, presents the Outstanding M.A. Graduate Student Award for 2011 to David Westermann.
