Summer Scholar Seminar

The Cowperthwaite Lecture is established in the name of L. LeRoy Cowperthwaite, who received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, served as Director of the School of Speech at Kent State for 29 years.

Each year the School invites a prominent communication scholar to campus for a one-week visit. Click here to view the scholars that have visited since 1984.

Ewoldsen, internationally recognized media and communication scholar, presented the L. LeRoy Cowperthwaite Lecture on the topic of Racism and the Media: A Complex Relationship. He also taught a week-long graduate seminar on Cultivation Theory: Multiple Perspectives.
