Volunteer Network

The Center for Scholastic Journalism helps to connect media professionals who want to volunteer their time to assist state and regional organizations of high school journalists.

Among the services volunteers might offer are speaking to students and teachers at journalism conferences, judging contests, critiquing student work, being interviewed, blogging or writing articles about current media issues or journalism skills for a scholastic press association publications or mentoring an individual student publication staff.

If you are a professional who would like to volunteer to help a scholastic media organization in your area or are associated with a scholastic press association that would be interested in the help of a volunteer, follow the links below.

ASSOCIATIONS SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

Could your scholastic press association benefit from the assistance of a professional media volunteer to assist with your programs for student journalists and advisers? Perhaps a volunteer could critique publications, judge contest entries, speak at a conference or convention, mentor a publication staff or assist with some other activity that fills your need.

Those who volunteer are media professionals who understand the value of scholastic journalism and want to help student journalists succeed. Depending upon your needs, a volunteer could assist your organization for a one-time event, for a few hours per week or something in between.

Some volunteers will have a general background in journalism, while others will have specialized training in a particular area such as business reporting, editing or multimedia journalism.

Requests for volunteers should be from scholastic press associations or related organizations. The Center for Scholastic Journalism will connect volunteers to the associations or organizations. Once the Center makes the connection between a volunteer and a scholastic press association, the two can decide if a specific volunteer is suitable for the association’s needs and work out the details.
