Welcome to the Office of Diversity and Academic Initiatives

President Lester A. LeftonMessage from the President

To be truly successful in the achievement of its mission, Kent State University must reflect an ever-changing world. It must be a true community, embracing many cultures, nationalities and ideas, one where students and staff can learn, work, study and imagine together. Toward that end, Kent State University is committed to diversity in its classrooms, workplaces and residential communities.

I welcome you to this web page and I hope you take the time to review our rich diversity resources. Thank You.

Message from the Vice Provost

Dr. Steve O. Michael

May I add my voice to those of the President in welcoming you to this Web site. Our Web site was developed with three goals in mind:

(1) to familiarize interested individuals with Kent State’s commitment to and programs for diversity vision,

(2) to serve as resource to those interested in institutional diversity, and

(3) to serve as one more means of communicating and celebrating our diversity progress.

The site is organized to help you obtain diversity information as quickly as possible by using the links provided on this page. For example, click on diversity philosophy and mission to review the vision that guides our diversity thoughts at Kent State or click on organizational structure to review the formal set up of the offices charged with diversity initiatives. Visit our photo gallery to view faces at functions. While this web site is developed for your convenience, we will be delighted to receive your thoughts and comments so that we may either reinforce or improve our services. Please send your comments to: diversity@kent.edu. Thank you for visiting and come back often.
