As the Administrative Assistant in the Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Barbara Johnson provides administrative support for the Diversity & Inclusion Leadership and the Women's Center. Barb assists in such programs as the MLK Celebration, the New Hire Diversity Luncheon, University Diversity Action Council (UDAC) and I AM (Inclusive Action Movement). Prior to joining the DEI division, Barb worked in the Office of the University Registrar in the Academic Scheduling Center as an Administrative Clerk and at Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority as a Certification Specialist for almost 10 years.
Barb is very passionate about helping the homeless and doing community service. Outside of work she assists Project Rise, which works in conjunction with the Akron Public Schools, providing homework help for homeless students and working on events for these students and their families. Barb holds an Associates of Science degree with a marketing minor from Kent State University and will be graduating December 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Integrative Studies with three minors. Barb plans on pursuing a Master's degree in the very near future.
