Program Description:

There are three separate versions of the School Library/Media Licensure:

The initial licensure program is for students who want to be a library media specialist but do not have a teaching certificate/license in Ohio.  This program leads to a Master’s of Education Degree (MEd). Students who complete the program are licensed to work at any level in K-12 schools as a Library/Media Specialist.

The Master’s degree in Library/Media is for students who already hold a valid teaching license and are trying to obtain licensure as a school library/media specialist.

The Licensure only program is designed for students who already have a valid teaching license and a Master’s degree in Education but wish to add a license as a school library/media specialist.

Admission/Prerequisite Requirements:
This program requires a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Adequate preparation in science, math, English and social sciences is also required.

Percent of program offered at a distance:  
Initial licensure program- 75%
Masters Degree- 75%
Licensure only- 100%

All instructional technology courses can be done online.  All Library Science courses can be completed from a distance through videoconferencing to specific sites around the state.  For the UPRs, several courses are offered online, and more can be negotiated with to offer an online version, if needed.  The other courses in the programs may or may not be offered online.  Many courses are moving their courses online, but each individual course must be looked at to see its online availability.
