Course Description:
Students will study Caribbean and transatlantic travel narratives from the 1600’s to the 1900’s. They will also study the historical, political, social, cultural influences of African people on the islands.The trip will begin in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Since Carnival docks in Old San Juan, we should have time to tour Old San Juan after checking in and before the ship leaves port in the evening. We will tour St. Thomas including the town of Charlotte Amalie and the area of Lindbergh Bay and the University of the Virgin Islands on the West end of the island. We will take an island tour in Barbados and visit a plantation site. In St. Lucia and St. Kitts, we will be able to visit cultural and geographical sites on the island, as well as in the open air.

 

Costs:
$1800.00 includes airfare from Cleveland, transfer to and from port in San Juan, island tours, cabin (for a four person cabin on the lowest category deck, Carnival Valor), meals, taxes and gratuities. Not included: passport fee, travel to and from Cleveland airport.
