Collection

The IRC houses a collection of over 5,000 items. This includes materials appropriate for all grade levels (preschool through adult) and includes a variety of formats:

  • activities
  • games
  • learning kits
  • software
  • videos
  • tests
  • journals
  • textbooks
  • instructional CD-Roms
  • and more!

Special Collections

The IRC supplies three special collections that are also available for checkout in adherence with the checkout policies:

Sign Language Collection

The American Sign Language and Deaf Programs materials were purchased primarily from a series of grants through the Ohio Department of Education to support American Sign Language and Interpreter Training Programs at both Kent State University and the University of Akron. A substantial number of materials were donated to KSU from the University of Akron's Interpreter Training Program when it closed.

CIIE (Center for International & Intercultural Education) Collection

In 2002, Dr. Manna received a grant from the College's International and Intercultural Education Program to develop this collection of award-winning children's and young adult books.

Oliver Ocasek Collection

This collection focuses on education and law.

Checkout Policies

All checkouts are done at the front desk of the IRC with a photo ID. Patrons must complete a patron information form the first time they check out items in order to be in the computer system. All fines must be paid and overdue items returned before further items can be checked out. If fines and overdue items are not settled by the end of the semester, notices will be mailed and, if still not settled, then patrons' university accounts will be charged. Items are available for checkout with the following guidelines (including special collections):

Equipment Checkout

Patrons need a photo ID to check out items. All fines must be paid and overdue items returned before further items can be checked out. If fines and overdue items are not settled by the end of the semester, notices will be mailed and, if still not settled, then patrons' university accounts will be charged.

Faculty/Staff Equipment Checkout

Faculty and staff can check out the following equipment items:

  • Digital Video cameras
  • Laptops
  • Digital Cameras
  • Microphones
  • Projectors (in bags)
  • Transcribers/Recorders
  • Tripods
  • Webcams

Items are picked up and returned to the front desk of the IRC.

Faculty Equipment for Delivery

Faculty can reserve certain technology to be delivered to the classroom at the beginning of class. All reservations should be made with the online scheduler. Items available for reserve include:

  • Mobile Laptop Cart: The Dell cart has 20 laptops that are delivered and picked up from the classrooms. All laptops connect to the Internet via wireless cards. These laptops will also print to the computer labs/IRC via Uniprint. These are ideal for when the labs are booked but you need computers in your classroom. If you need computers on a regular basis, please reserve a classroom computer lab.
  • Mobile Netbook Cart: The Netbook cart has 20 netbooks with chargers. The cart is delivered and picked up from the classrooms. All laptops connect to the Internet via wireless cards. The  netbooks do not have not have CD/DVD drives.
  • TV/VCR Cart: All of the classrooms have VCR's and a way to project the image (either projector or television monitor). However, this can be reserved and delivered to conference rooms or other locations that do not already have VCR capabilities.
  • Document Cameras: White Hall classrooms have either document cameras or overhead projectors. However, if you would like to project something other than a transparency, and your room only has an overhead projector, please reserve a document camera for classroom delivery.
