Kent State Koleji, Istanbul, Turkey

In September 2005, Turkish and international children from ages 3 to grade 3 be attended a new bilingual, multi-cultural elementary school, Kent State Koleji in Istanbul, Turkey. This private school, governed by the laws of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Turkey, and funded by the Europe Education Foundation. This school faculty and administration is guided in constructivist learning environment, technology integration, and effective practices by Kent State University Education faculty. In the new school, instruction will be conducted both in English and in Turkish. Both cultures will be valued and taught along with both languages.
In 2003, Talip Emiroglu approached KSU about a collaboration on a best practices K-12 school inIstanbul Turkey. In 2008, President Lefton and Founder Talip and celebrate this partnership.
KSU Faculty guided the construction and ordering of furniture and equipment during the first days of the
collaboration.
Constructivist philosophy, math, science, English, gifted education, counseling, and early childhood literacy workshops have been provided by KSU faculty through visits four times a year since 2003.
In 2008, Dr. Joanne Dowdy was an Artist in Residence in Drama.
Kent Sate Koleji also received training as an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program school from local Turkish experts. KSK is a bilingual school, and also teaches Spanish.
Kent State-influenced uniforms, high technology, and a championship baseball team demonstrate influences of globalization on schooling in this school in Turkey.
Kent State Koleji parents bring their children to English immersion programs at Kent State for Kids each summer. Can you imagine the US Embassy visa officer when an eight year old says she needs a visa to go to Kent State University in the United States for summer school?
Dr. Dan Mahony celebrates with the first eighth grade graduates of Kent State Koleji in June 2009, and looks forward to Kent State University's involvement in secondary school due to open in September 2009.
