N.J. Akbar joined EHHS as Director of Diversity Outreach and Development in November 2012. At Kent State University since July 2009, Akbar has served as Assistant Director of Student Success Programs coordinating academic support services and did a short stint as Interim Director of the LGBTQ Center. Prior to relocating to the area, he worked at the University of Michigan (The Career Center & Office of Student Conflict Resolution) and Eastern Michigan University (Summer Incentive Program & Holman Learning Center).
Akbar was born and raised in Detroit, MI. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in History and English for Secondary Education and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership for Higher Education Student Affairs, both from Eastern Michigan University. In his spare time, N.J. is an avid reader, loves to golf, cook and spend time with his loving dog Nyla, his siblings and parents in Detroit.

Lauren Jaeger, Associate Director of Advancement for the College of EHHS, joined Kent State University in February 2013 after relocating to the area from Buffalo, New York. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Public Relations and a Master of Science degree in Executive Leadership and Change from Daemen College. In her spare time Lauren enjoys exploring the outdoors with her husband Michael and their dog Riley. She also enjoys doing anything creative whether it be cooking, sewing, decorating, or painting.

Dan Mahony is the Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Services and a professor of sport management. Prior to coming to Kent State University, he spent 13 years as a faculty member and administrator at the University of Louisville. His administrative positions included sport administration program director, department chair, associate dean, assistant provost, and associate provost. Before becoming a faculty member, he worked in both public accounting and intercollegiate athletics. Dan has a B.S. in accounting from Virginia Tech, an M.S. in sport management from West Virginia University, and a Ph.D. in sport management from Ohio State University. He is an active researcher in the areas of sport consumer behavior and intercollegiate athletics and has published over 50 articles in various refereed journals, several book chapters, and one book. Dan is a NASSM Research Fellow and won the 2007 Earle F. Zeigler Award from the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) for his research contributions to the field. He also served as President of NASSM from 2003-2004.

I maintain the EHHS website, write press releases, coordinate events and handle other marketing-related efforts for the College. I earned my bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University and my master's from the University of Akron. Currently, I teach an online podcasting workshop at KSU and introduction to public relations and desktop publishing at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike. I am working on my doctoral coursework in Educational Psychology at KSU. Upon completion, I plan to teach full time at a university or college in communications and/or technology.

After graduating from Baldwin Wallace College in 1966 with a major in Health and Physical Education and a minor in Psychology Mr. Toothaker taught for six years in the Chagrin Falls Schools in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He taught at two elementary schools, also coaching wrestling and track. He earned his M. Ed. at Kent State in 1973. In the fall of 1972 he accepted a position teaching Physical Education to all grades from kindergarten through middle school at the Kent State University Laboratory School, a department in the College of Education. He became the Coordinator of the Specials Unit (Art, Music, home economics, technology, and physical education); Coordinator of the Kent State for Kids for the first nine years of the program: coordinated and lead the adventure education programs at the Lab School: and worked closely with the teacher preparation program in physical education in the School of PERD to coordinate and supervise pre-service teacher observations and teaching at the Lab School. In 1982 he became a faculty member in the School of PERD (that became the School of Exercise, Leisure and Sport) at Kent State University. His primary teaching responsibilities were in elementary physical education, aquatics, outdoor pursuits and adventure education. Administratively he served nine years as Coordinator of the Physical Education Basic Program and was the Assistant-to-the-Director of SELS for nine years. Mr. Toothaker retired in June of 2006 as an Emeriti Professor in Exercise, Leisure and Sport. He is currently a facility manager at Kent State in the MACC Annex and teaches part-time in the Physical Education Basic Program.
