- Adapted Curriculum
One of the goals of the Diversity Committee involves initiating transformative curricula that will help students understand the kinds of changes or adaptations that can be made in lesson planning when diversity is one of the factors under consideration.
To this end, the Diversity committee engaged Dr. Debra L. Clark to write adaptations for lessons plans in all the major subject areas, at all grade levels. These lessons meet content area benchmark standards and can be used by students and faculty as models for adapting curricula for various student needs and teacher purposes.Lesson plans adapted for multicultural awareness and appreciation were written in a variety of formats and were designed to help K-12 students understand the diversity of the United States as well as the global world in which we live. Lesson plans adapted to meet the needs of a diversity of learners follow a similar template which involves applying Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences as well as tips for work with students with specific disabilities.
There are 23 original lessons, 23 adaptations for multicultural/global awareness and appreciation, and 23 adaptations for diverse learners. Some lessons have multi-disciplinary content and may appear in more than one category. More...
