Early Childhood Education Technology
Two year associate degree programs in Early Childhood are offered at the Salem, Ashtabula, and Tuscarawas campuses of Kent State University. Visit the web site for each campus for information on these programs.
Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E) (KENT, SALEM)
The Early Childhood Education (ECED) undergraduate program offers students the skills and resources needed to obtain Ohio licensure for early childhood, ages three to eight, preschool through primary.

Licensure Requirement (not required for graduation): Candidates seeking Ohio licensure are required to pass specific assessments in order to apply for licensure. See Ohio Department of Education-Educator Preparation website for more information on assessments specific to licensure type. Taking and passing the licensure tests prior to graduation is encouraged but not required.
- The ECED program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and Ohio's State Department of Education
Master of Education & Master of Arts in Early Childhood
The M.Ed. and M.A. programs are designed for teachers and other professionals in fields related to education that wish to pursue advanced study in teaching, leadership, research, or public policy and advocacy.
- Students are guided by faculty in the development of a self-assessment and program of study that satisfies individual professional goals and expectations of the program.
- All students must complete an exit project that may include a thesis (M.A.), practicum (M.Ed.), or action research project (M.Ed.).
- Ohio endorsements for Preschool and Early Education of the Handicapped (EEH) are available to qualified applicants as part of the Master of Education program.

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
This degree is for those students with non-licensure bachelor degrees who wish to obtain Ohio licensure for Early Childhood (age three to grade three). Consult the MAT program website for further details. Admission requirements include the Graduate Record Exam, Praxis I math, a 2.75 undergraduate G.P.A., and an interview.

If you hold an Ohio Early Childhood P-3 Teaching License you may earn an endorsement to teach grades 4-5.
The Endorsement is comprised of the following courses:

- C&I 50093 Halfway Up the Stairs: Early Middle Level Education and Effective Teaching and Learning in Grades 4-5

To enroll in the program you must be accepted by the department, then complete admission paperwork.
These courses/workshops may be used toward the completion of a master's degree in:
- Early Childhood Education
- Curriculum and Instruction/Curriculum and Teaching
- Curriculum and Instruction/Middle Childhood
- Special Education General
(In most cases all 14 credit hours would count.)
