The Physical Education program is among the best physical education teacher licensure programs in the United States. The purpose of the program is to prepare teachers and professionals to promote high quality physical education and physical activity programs for children, youth, and community members. Faculty members are respected researchers, authors of textbooks, and lead efforts nationally and state-wide to advocate for inclusive physically active educational opportunities within schools and beyond. We offer three undergraduate programs, two of which lead to teaching licenses. For candidates interested in graduate studies, we have an initial licensure program at the graduate level.
We offer the following programs in Physical Education:
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education includes three options:
Physical Education Teacher Licensure: The teacher certification concentration prepares students for careers as licensed physical education teachers for children and youth (kindergarten through grade 12).
Health and Physical Education: Students can pursue multi-age licensure to teach both Health and Physical Education (HPE).
Human Movement Studies: This concentration affords students the opportunity to individualize an area of study through a liberal approach to education. Students select courses related to physical education or sport studies to support their areas of interest, or for preparation for a related profession such as athletic coaching, or physical activity leaders in non-school programs.
M.Ed. in Physical Education
This program leads to a multi-age (pre-K through 12th grade) license to teach Physical Education in the State of Ohio. The program includes field experience components at the elementary and secondary levels, and culminates with a full semester student teaching experience split between the two levels
PE Basic Instruction Courses
offer students a wide variety of activities and sports such as broomball, cycling, dance, and figure skating.
