Faculty Diversity

Mission Statement

The mission of the Diversity Committee is to assist in implementing the stated goals of the Plan:

  1. To initiate and/or support transformation that reflects a global and inclusive curriculum through new and existing programs and courses;
  2. To assist in increasing recruitment efforts to bring more diverse faculty to our ranks, while developing conditions that support their retention and success;
  3. To assist in increasing efforts to recruit and retain underrepresented students into all the education and human service professions represented in the College;
  4. To undertake efforts to encourage among the Faculty the inclusion of diversity issues into all areas of their scholarship, while lobbying for the implementation of appropriate accountability and rewards into the tenure and promotion process;
  5. To help to implement professional development programs for faculty, student, and staff that focus on the full scope of diversity issues; and
  6. To initiate and monitor baseline and on-going data in order to systematically and effectively assess progress toward our goals.

A Commitment to Diversity

In accordance with our commitment to promote diversity among our faculty, EHHS seeks to recruit and retain competent and accomplished individuals that will enlighten and enhance our college and the programs we deliver, as well as the ingenuity and efficacy of the research that EHHS faculty engage in. As such, Kent State University’s College of Education, Health, and Human Services is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. In an effort to communicate available faculty positions and other job openings, EHHS abides by strict guidelines that enable search committees to disseminate information related to such positions to a diverse audience, thereby increasing the likelihood that prospective candidates will come from diverse backgrounds.  The Operational Procedures and Regulations Regarding Job Communication policy document describes the procedures of the University regarding communicating the opening and availability of employment and faculty positions, particularly the guidelines the University uses to ensure qualified minorities, females, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are notified of such openings and given sufficient consideration in hiring decisions.  Moreover, Affirmative Action Plan Forms detail guidelines, strategies, support activities, summaries, and other useful documents that aid EHHS departments in ensuring diversity during the candidate selection process.
